7 Things To Do During a Crisis as a Realtor

Trueblood Real Estate
Mar 23 5 minutes read

We know we’re all facing some pretty tough times right now. As strict guidelines about being in public start to take place, and social gatherings are getting cancelled, you may start to worry about how all this affects not only your everyday life, but your business too. As a real estate agent, most of your day involves seeing people face to face and visiting homes. But with the current state of the world this isn’t exactly possible – or suggested.

While this uncertain time can be overwhelming, we’re choosing to use this time to finish up those things on our to-do list that keep getting pushed back and to stay strong for each other, our clients, and our community. We’ve compiled a list of 7 things to do during a crisis as a real estate agent to help you out during this difficult time.

ONE

Let Your Clients Know You’re There For Them

Respond to the current situation and let your clients, friends, and followers know that you’re there for them during this difficult time. Also let them know what precautions you’re taking since most of your business is conducted in person and you'll be working from home now. Make yourself available for Zoom calls to meet with clients, FaceTime to show houses virtually, and even use technology like DocuSign to sign contracts at home.

TWO

Help Your Community

As most people have been stuck in their houses for some time, they are probably starting to go a bit stir crazy. Most people are also glued to their phones and computers even more than normally, so why not provide your community with some helpful content. Make a list of things they can do at home to pass the time or let your community know what local businesses you can help from a distance. Everyone is going through the same thing right now, so provide a smile and helping hand (or virtual high five) and help out other businesses around you.

THREE

Develop a Virtual Plan

Technology is a lot more advanced than it was 10 years ago, so there’s no excuse why you can’t continue to grind online. For sellers, use Zoom and FaceTime to meet and consult. Online marketing is huge for real estate so start showing off your listings online. Check out what we do for our sellers here to give you an idea of where to start.

FOUR

Start Spring Cleaning With Your Database

Have you been meaning to clean up your database for a while? Update contacts, what people are looking to buy, who has sold, hot leads that may be looking to buy or sell soon? Now is the perfect time to do so! The excuse “I don’t have time” doesn’t apply anymore. Get to work and clean up your database.

FIVE

Update Your Website & Branding

If you’ve been in business for a while, it's probably been a while since you've updated your site. Take the time to update your about page, freshen up your home page, and maybe even do a little rebranding to your business. If you’re looking to really step up your game, there are plenty of graphic designers and website specialists who are willing to help, and are of course, available online.

SIX

Be the Local Expert

Just because of what’s going on in the world doesn’t mean there aren’t still people who need to buy or sell right now. Be honest about the market and let your community know what’s happening. Is now a good time to buy because of lower interest rates? Is it a good time to sell because there’s less competition? Get on camera, record a video, and provide a real update on what the market is like in your community.

SEVEN

Take a Step Back & Relax

If you work in real estate that means you’re constantly on the go and in work mode. During a typical work week, you’re most likely showing houses on the weekends and taking client calls in the evenings. Use this time you're stuck at home to spend more quality time with your family and loved ones. Take a step back and enjoy the little moments that you may miss out. You are human too, so don’t feel like you can’t take a step back and breathe.
