How to Get Back into Your Real Estate Career in 4 Simple Steps

Trueblood Real Estate
Sep 30 4 minutes read

Whether you took some time off to pursue another passion, start a family, or life just got too busy, it's not too late to get back into your real estate career. It can be overwhelming when it seems like everyone is an agent these days and the technology isn’t the same as the last time you sold a home, so we put together 4 simple steps to help you get started if you’re looking to get back into your real estate career.

STEP ONE

Renew Your Real Estate License

The first thing you need to do is check if your real estate license is still valid. If you’ve moved states or if it’s been years, chances are you need to reactivate your license. This may require starting over form the ground up or taking a few more classes and updating paperwork depending on your situation. This blog post is a good starting point to get your license in Indiana but it'a always a good idea to check with your state’s real estate board to see what exactly is required for you.

STEP TWO

Decide on a Brokerage

This step is one of the most important factors when getting back into your career. The previous brokerage you worked for could be the reason you took a step back from real estate. Who you work for truly matters, so picking the right brokerage for you is crucial. We have an entire blog post on How to Find the Right Brokerage for For You, if you need some help with this step.

STEP THREE

Connect With Your Sphere of Influence & Past Clients

After renewing your license and getting your feet on the ground, it’s a great time to reach out to your sphere of influence and past clients. Make sure to keep your message personal to avoid sounding sales-y and that you’re just looking for business. Reach out with a personal message asking them how they've been or even consider putting together a past client event. Creating genuine connections creates a sense of trust and reliability that can ultimately bring you referrals and connections down the line. Plus, you never know who has been considering selling their home.

STEP FOUR

Create a Marketing Strategy

If you’ve been out of the game for a few years, you probably weren’t marketing the way you should be today. In this day and age, social media marketing is everything so you’ll want to come back with a strong marketing strategy. Start blogging about topics relevant to home buyers and sellers such as market reports, tips on the buying or selling process, and mistakes to avoid. Be sure to localize your content too. Create content like “Best Date Night Spots in Carmel” or “5 Things Happening in Central Indiana This Weekend”. Being an expert in your local community will help you become the go-to agent in your market. After creating trustworthy and educational content, market it everywhere. Facebook and Instagram ads are a great way to target people in your area and email marketing is a great way to stay in touch with past clients. If you really want to go all in, start creating videos. Videos will not only showcase beautiful listings in your area but help people connect your brand to your face and personality. Creating a strong marketing strategy as an agent is crucial to creating a successful career.
